Electrician’s Guide on ways Home Renters can save on Power Costs

Some renters think that it may not be possible to cut down on electricity costs But the truth of the matter is, it is possible to save on utilities with a few lifestyle adjustments, and some effort to become more efficient when it comes to using power at home. Build Safe       

Energy Star shared some advice on lowering electrical consumption. One of which is about air conditioning systems. “Considering purchasing a room air conditioner? Consider an ENERGY STAR qualified model. They use at least 10 percent less energy than standard models. In the winter, be sure to insulate room air conditioners from the outside with a tight-fitting a/c unit cover, available at your local home improvement center or hardware store. This keeps heated air from escaping outside. Alternately, you can remove the window unit in the winter months to prevent energy losses. Be sure the window unit fits tightly in the window so outdoor air is not getting in.”

Be Eco-Friendly

The website Apartment Guide also featured tips on saving on electricity bills. One way, according to the webpage, is by being ecofriendly. Electrician  

“If you use a lot of lights in your apartment, one way to reduce your electric bill is to use eco-friendly light bulbs. There are lots of eco-friendly light bulbs available, and they’re much more durable, long lasting, and environmentally-conscious. Fluorescent light bulbs are not only better for the environment, they’re also better for your bank account. Switch your regular bulbs out for fluorescent ones; then reduce their usage as much as possible. Consider trying different fluorescent bulbs to find just the right color for your home (some can be very bright).”

The Australian Government’s Website meanwhile published some tips on cutting down on electricity costs when renting a home. One of their initial suggestions is doing some lifestyle changes.

“If you’ve got a second fridge, getting rid of it could save around $172 a year. Switching off the game console after use could save up to $193 a year. Using the clothesline instead of the dryer once a week could save $79 a year.”
